American Authors – Believer

I am not a religious person by any means. I believe I am a good person. I try to treat people with respect, and although I am steadfast in my values, I listen to other people. I can be judgmental, but at the end of the day, I believe that we all deserve an equal opportunity to make our way in this life. Unfortunately, not everyone has that opportunity, and sometimes people have insurmountable obstacles in their way. When we have hurdles that are higher than our ability to jump, our path is designed for failure. But that does not mean that our destiny is to fail. We may need to train harder, find new pathways, and remap our lives, but these challenges are not the end of us. What we do need to face these challenges is belief. When I say this, it is not religious nor spiritual, but it is a belief in something you cannot see. A belief in your ability and in your future. We cannot always see the next step, and so we have to believe that our experiences and our life training prepare us for what is next. The problem is, sometimes it just does not prepare us and we get knocked down. This shakes our belief in ourselves. Sometimes other people shake this belief more than we do ourselves (which is why I think it is important to treat everyone with care). Belief in ourselves and our own abilities can be fragile, and just like training our bodies, we have to train our minds to allow us to believe in ourselves. We have nothing to lose by believing in our future, and we have everything to lose by not believing.
